Tariffs affect on stone industry

The trade wars going on with the United States and other countries may soon be affecting the stone industry.  The recent Tariffs placed on China for over 6,000 products categories include natural stone.  This recent development is said to add a 10% ad valorem tariff which will include Chinese natural stone including quartz surfaces.

In the stone industry, Chinese products have always been the hardest to compete with due to their lower pricing, but now the game will be changing.  It is said that with the recent tariffs, other products will be able to compete more with the Chinese.

Along with the natural stone, it will also include tariffs on stone machinery like grinders, polishers and cutting saws.  The Chinese play a huge role in stone fabrication equipment and have always been the least expensive in the market. This may soon change as these tariffs come into play.
